I don't like to hold steering wheel with both hands unless it's necessary like turning. Otherwise, left hand around 7 or 8. Book says lower than 3 and 9 as others stated. But I think it's more important to move your seat back as far back as it goes and if you can't reach the pedals, get an extenders for them. I think that is more of a safety issue regarding air bag than the hand position. Hands are free to move where ever the least force is. Sure it might hit your face and break your arm, but it will bounce off somewhere. The seat and steerin wheels are fixed so they can go nowhere.
