My grandfather was a plumber by trade and owned a hardware store. This stuff is easier than you think. However, I would advise you to pick the brain of a local hardware store owner rather than to depend on the advice of the people at Lowes or Home Depot. The prices at these mass retailers are slightly better, but the plumbing expertise of their hired help will not approach that of the local hardware store help. Some Aces or True Values have pretty good people working in their plumbing sections. Ideally, you have a hardware store near your house with dim lighting and wooden floors.....those places are the best. First go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy one of those "plumbing made easy" type books. Read through applicable sections.....don't let this type of work intimidate you because it's really very straightforward. And once your wife sees what a great job you did with the bathroom, she'll have you rip out the kitchen, put a skylight in the bedroom and construct a closet especially for her shoes.....ask me how I know!
