It can be a do it yourself type project fairly easily for anyone semi-mechanically inclined. Some things to consider. Hit Lowes or HomeDepot for books on how to do it (I think they even have classes that you might be interested in). A wet saw for cutting the concrete is a heavy piece of equipment but worth renting, so you will need friends to lug it into the basement. Sewer lines are cake as long as you plan well: provide proper slope and provide clean outs at turns, etc. Sometimes slope can be a real issue if the existing line is too shallow. Sweating copper lines is also real easy, and I suggest running them overhead instead of beneath the slab (easier to repair if something goes wrong). Avoid wet plumbing along outside walls unless you can provide insulation. The biggest problem I usually see with Owner basement remodels is actually forgetting about heating ducts and exhaust fans. Also, since it’s a slab on grade in Erie, frame all your walls with a slip joint so any movement in the slab won’t push the rest of the structure and cause you future problems.
Good luck,
Chris (architect in denver)
