Steve and Rafe both have good suggestions, however if you are planning on a relocation of the bathroom's footprint within the confines of the basement's footprint, then Rafe's ideas fly out the window.
DO buy a plumbing "do it yourself" book... there are several out there; some better than others. Almost all plumbing work can be easily done by anyone mechanically inclined and possessed of a little common sence. That said, I'd advise allowing a pro to do all the "rough in" work and you do the trim out work. I'm sure you're possessed of the talent to set a toilet, lavatory, lavatory faucet, supply valves (as well as the shut off valves under the sink), shower valve trim and shower head. It's not rocket science, just something that takes time, care, and attention to detail.
Good luck with your project!
