Rob-
I have been trying not to second guess my actions but, have been reliving the event anyway. I had just pushed through a group of traffic so except for the Ford, the road ahead of me was clear. I had been doing 70/75mph in a posted 65mph. When I saw the direction the cargo bar was taking my foot went off the gas while I was thinking/looking for my way out. Started to look right and there was a car passing me. At which time it was too late to try to avoid the bar so I stiff armed the wheel with both hands. It was very dramatic because as soon as I hit it the car started going into a slide. While I did try to steer into the slide a little I knew to much over correction could have caused a fishtail & or roll-over and I still had traffic behind me so I continued forward & sideways into the wall. I don't know if it helped or not. All traffic behind me came to a stop and there weren't any other fender benders resulting from the complete stopping of traffic flow.
The thought has crossed my mind to take a defensive driving course or some such. And while I don't know how much it would help at least it would make me more prepared & confident(?) further down the road. As I have not gotten behind the wheel since I know I will have to get my confidence back and drive the same stretch of highway again.
Take care
-Peter
