I like Noel's perspective, that a Saab offers the best overall package - safety, performance, utility, reliability, comfort. One could probably name a car that exceeds Saab in any one of these categories, except perhaps for safety, but I can think of no car that does so well in all categories. I also agree that you never tire of them. They are a pleasure to drive.

As far as Saab owners being more educated, the only evidence I've seen is surveys which report that this is the case. Survey samples can be very biased, as you know. I would suggest you look around the BB's on this site to get some insight on this issue.

Dilution of the brand - yes, definitely. However, Saab was facing extinction, and GM did save them from this. I think this has allowed other brands to close the gap - other European brands.

There are Saab owners who maintain a fierce loyalty to older models, like the classic 900, built until '93, and the really older models, which have a classic charm. I'm partial to the 9000, built until '98.
