I have a 5 speed in my '96 9000, an auto in my daughter's 9000 (still my car) and a 5 speed auto in my wife's 9-5 Linear.
In the 9K's I prefer the stick, but I could get hooked on the auto in the 9-5. I don't really like the paddles--like Mike Lynch my shifting neurons are wired to my arm, not my thumbs--but in sport mode even the Linear model does OK.
I just wish the 9-5 had the slap shift of the 9-3.
I still would rather have a shift, but the new automatics aren't all bad.
