A few dealers have told me Saab pays nothing for diagnostics, unless warranty work is done on the complaint.
I did nothing except object to them saying they would charge a diagnostic fee for an in warranty car in the future.
The point of the unresolved issues was simply that the dealer could have been paid by Saab to fix more things if they bothered to properly diagnose. I'm not even discussing my inconvenience, but their comment about a diagnostic fee was totally uncalled for.
I think the dealers are faced with the issue of spend five minutes to get $400 worth of business from Saab or spend an hour to get $20 worth. The dealers simply give up after a quick glance. Valid problems are not addressed under warranty and Saab benefits on the consumers back.
Is a dealer really an independent business? Say I lived in Alaska and the dealer refused service so the next dealer was 500 miles away. There must be some burden on the manufacturer to enable servicing, especially when under warranty.
