We have both.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Pop up or screw in safety cover anchor??, adl6009 ![]() |
We have the pop-up style for the anchor points in the concrete deck, and the screw-up style for anchor points in wooden timbers that comprise the top layer of a retaining wall surrounding 1/3 of our pool deck.
Each style works well and if I was installing a cover on another pool, I might use either. The pop-ups are faster to raise and lower, but always appear they could become trouble in the future. We installed our cover in 2004 and have had no problems yet with either type of anchor.
Measure twice, drill once.
Try to keep the anchors a uniform 30-inches from the pool edge (or whatever the instructions say) but a small variation will never be noticed. Our distance from pool edge varies greatly because we have a Kidney-shaped pool.
Use some paver bricks or other small heavy items to lay on the cover straps to hold the cover in place during the measuring phase. Try to keep the cover dry until you have it layed out correctly. Accordian-fold the cover, then start at one end advancing the cover one strap spacing, lay the blocks on the straps, then keep going. Don't pump your pool down before you install the anchor points. If the cover gets away from you with a full pool it will only drop 6-inches to the water surface.
