I suggest you buy, don't rent, a Dewalt SDS Hammer Drill (or comparable). I included a link to the one I have. SDS drill bit slide in with a slotted arrangement and they do NOT loosen in use. A hammer drill with a chuck will loosen every time you drill a hole, a real PITA. With this unit you can drill each hole in about 60 seconds and then move right on to the next one. The bits are all carbide tipped and you won't wear it at all.
If you do want to use it as a regular 1/2 drill, you can buy an adaptor that fits in the SDS chuck and you can put a regular jacobs chuck on there for non stone work.
There are some Bosch SDS drills for a little less - I got the Dewalt because it adds a chisel mode to the rotary & rotary hammer modes in most units.
If you really want to rent, make sure you get something with an SDS chuck.
