Trust me, go with the screw type. Only 2 or 3 of my customers have pop-up styles and it seems like half of the anchors don't work anymore, they are just kinda jammed in the holes now. In the summer they don't stay down anymore so they are pulled out and kept in a bucket. The screw in type are much more common and yes they can fail as well. Keeping them clean is the key to long life. Regardless both styles can be extracted like a wine cork and replaced without having to re-drill.
