I think there is much agreement that what Saab needs to do, should it survie its restructuring, is abandon GM lofty ideas of selling Saab at Volvo numbers. If Saab accept its niche status and devise operating plans that make it profitable selling, at a minimum 50,000+ vehicles, then there is no reason they can't survive and live to grow.
The death of Saab has been this attempt to make the car an object of common desire, ala BMW. But if I desire BMW, why would I buy Saab if Saab looks and cost like BMW. If you line up 10 marble and need to choose, you probably will pick the one that stands out. That aint the case with Saabs these days.
If they can come-up with something as hot as the c900 SPG convertible, that every stockbroker wants to be seen in, then they will survive. If they continue to make boring "me-to" sedan and wagons, then its adios amigos.
