Cars from Renault and PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) are not just home market models. Go to their global site and you'll see they are present across Europe, Africa, Asia and South America. Car volumes are in the millions.
We just don't have them in the US anymore. PSA's diesel engines and upcoming hybrid diesel powerplants show real vision in fuel efficiency and cleanliness. I'd buy a Peugeot 407 SW or a Citroen C5 wagon in a heartbeat if I could. In fact, I would buy a Ford Mondeo wagon here in the US, but Ford has to figure out that maybe the station wagon isn't dead and that not everyone wants a V8 SUV in its place.
