What is amazing is the number of somewhat specialized tools VWs and Audis seem to require. I googled "special tools for VWs and Audis" and just these two sites have more than you're likely to ever need. There's several other sites beyond these.

The problem, of course, is that some tools are the type a DIYer will need only once or maybe twice in the time they own the car, so it's hard to justify the tool cost for onetime jobs. And it can be hard to know in advance just what you need. One of the great things about Saabs is that you can do most stuff with ordinary tools.
