i was in this situation last weekend, lane ending, me..

signaling to get in, and freeway traffic moving about 10-15mph. i probably had about 50 yards to go 'till the end of the lane.

the complete a-hole in the brand new audi S4 in the lane to the left of me (slow lane 2 lane highway) speeds up because he didn't want to be behind me. then he slows down so he's right next to me, even though there was enough space ahead of him so i'd be able to merge behind him.

he didn't move, i was running out of lane, and i'm inching closer and closer to him until i was about 6 inches off his side. the ending landed had ended, and i had to stop so that he'd creep past as i was now on the shoulder. he still wasn't going to move even if i had to drive into the side of him.

i ended up passing him about a 1/4 mile down the road when the traffic pace resumed. i certainly had a few choice words for him. of course, i'm sure he was smiling and feeling quite secure behind his tinted windows.

i didn't wait until the end of the lane, i signaled, i was keeping pace with the freeway crawl, and it still didn't work. sometimes there's nothing you can do. society isn't polite any more.

if i'd had eggs i certainly would have lobbed some onto his nice new paint and windshield i was that pissed at the time.

that's why when people do try to get around from behind on the exit lane and cut in, or intentionally go past the end of the merge lane on the on-ramps i won't let them by or in. and so society continues its downward spiral...
