again, my point implicit was that Oil prices will not change soley based on a simple measure of supply/demand for several reasons: one is that many gvt's not only do NOT tax fuel, they subsidize it, while other countries tax it heavily.
Then there's the supplier issue of having very few players in a cartel system attempting to control the price, and they do so mainly in US dollars.
Perhaps complex taxation of fuel usage is not ideal, BUT oil is literally the ONLY strategic national and international commodity, and governments and their people have an interest in managing the long term availability of it. That is a stone cold fact, and i encourage a challenge to this fact.
The technology for non fossil-fuel vehicles/transport is seriously far off, so maintaining long-ish term fuel availability is in the people's interest and thus is in the government's interest and obligation to start to at least look at the complex international economics of fuel usage/availability.
I'm in favor of incentives and taxes in a nuanced rational system, and i'm a very conservative generally antitax person.
I am really getting the impression some ppl here use the term "supply/deman" and "market" without understanding the terms and their gradations, at all.
I am very fearful of a big government making too many economic decisions.
For "Reality", what is this tax system the US has that europe has had to submit to since WWII?
