Believe it or not it has gotten cheaper. The internet (and particularly a certain large auction site) has hugely expended the industry of car shippers and logistics in general are much better allowing shippers to combine multiple loads and get return loads more often, all lowering costs and making the industry more competitive with itself. You can even go on uship and have shippers bid on your specific load. When the economy went south, costs really dropped on this kind of stuff too. Of course, it's all hugely dependent on routes and other variables, but can still be perfectly viable even for less expensive cars.
