If there truly are lots of parts and accessories your best bet might be your second suggestion. Rent a small moving truck (U-Haul, Penske, or similar) and a car hauling trailer in the local area of the car. Load the parts into the truck and the car onto the trailer, then drive yourself back to Chicago. I don't know if these trailers come with a winch to pull a non-runner on-board.
Reliable Carriers and Intercity Lines are two companies who have provided me with quotes for moving an operational MGA from the Finger Lakes area of NY to the Detroit suburbs where I live. Their On-Line Quotations systems ask if the car is a runner, but I would be surprised if they move parts.
Can the seller crate and pack the loose pieces?
The home page for Hemmings Motor News has ads for a variety of auto shippers and auto shipping services.
