Maybe some of you folks have been down this road before... I need some advice.
My wife and I are looking at possibly doing some kitchen upgrades. Our house is 80 years old and the kitchen is ??? years old. The kichen is a modest size, with ugly painted cabinets. We have thought about refacing the cabinets and have 2 quotes, but both seem a lot more expensive than i expected. Does $6800 sound like far too much for:
Vendor 1:
Laminate (read: plastic) cabinet doors
All new drawers
Flush the cabinet bottoms
Veneer (again, plastic) on all other surfaces
New formica countertop, new sink, new faucet (nice one)
Remove old stuff and install new stuff
Vendor 2:
Maple doors and drawer fronts (Shaker style)
real wood veneer
formica countertops
intallation of sink and faucet (parts provided by me)
Remove old stuff, install new stuff
Seems steep, eh? I have to wonder what all new cabinets would go for.
My kitchen has very nice hardwood floors, horrible cabinets and countertop. I have about 12ft wide of cabinets, maybe 13. That is 12-13 feet bottom (including stove & dishwasher) and 12-13 feet including window above sink.
Tomorrow is "Alumninum Siding Refinishing" estimate day. Can they charge 2x more since they're not calling it "clean and paint"?
Saab content: cabinet sales guy pulled in the drive and started sizing me up in 2 seconds with "man, that car is nice. Must be fast. Had to cost a lot, huh?" I should have said i went thousands over on the car purchase, so the kitchen budget is down...
