I wish I had something better to tell you...Audi allroad has a third row seat option. Its a nice wagon (I used to own one), but the third row seat in this vehicle, as in many other wagons, is awkward. I am not sure it is unsafe as the back facing third row seat option has been around a long time.
Don't totally knock SUVs. I have to admit that I have one. I did come to one conclusion - if your going to get one go large and meet your needs. I personally find 90% of the SUVs out there a complete waste -- most are just jacked up wagons. If you really need to haul 6+ people get something that is safe - a minivan or a Large SUV. If you don't go that route get a wagon with the third row. My family is only at four today, but regular family visits have us hauling 6+. I also tow a 5000lb boat using my SUV -- which is a Chevy Suburban. I will say this -- coming from an anti SUV guy -- I love my Subruban. I only recommend them to someone that can benefit from a vehicle of this size. They are suprisingly agile and in the right hands very safe. Its the only way to move 6+ comfortably.
That said if you would have asked me two years ago if I would have owned a Suburban I would have thought you were nuts. Now I won't be without one until the kids are old enough to drive. I also figure that overall I average out better than average gas mileage considering my other car is a Saab;)
