You can get a 1994 or 1995 with only 50-75k miles for about $20k. New ones are about $55k. MUCH safer to drive than an SUV. And the hood is not positioned to slice people's heads off in a side collision, which is good unless you are in to that sort of thing.
We use the rear-facing third seat all the time. There is special reinforcement to prevent penetration in the event of a crash, although I will certainly admit the prospect of testing that out does not appeal to me. Neither does a rollover.
