Hi Janet,
I love my '02 Aero, but I also need to carry six folks on occasion. I am also a field biologist and need a four-wheel-drive for my research. We have a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited. It comfortably seats seven and is built on real truck running gear so that it is extremely rugged and actually quite luxurious (full leather - dual zone climate control, etc.). It has a multi-mode four wheel drive system that includes low range and lockable differentials. I have owned seven SUV's and this is the best blend for my needs. It is powered by a new 3.8 litre V6 which provides 217hp and over 20mpg on the highway. It is as tough as a Land Rover - without the durability problems. They are priced near 40K loaded - but we negotiated down to 35K and lease for 400/month (2000 up front) with 15K/year. The truck is very comfortable on the highway and the engine even achieves "Low Emissions Status" in all 50 states.
Just a thought...
