Several items had me amused.
I was amused by the fact that the article stated a SUV will use up 1.4 the space on the road as a car. He took it as a bad thing making traffic worse. I take it that since the physical length isn't really worse on the majority of SUV's than most normal cars, drivers of SUV's are giving more space in front of them: a good thing that doesn't lend itself to a aggresive FUV image and instead lends itself to a arguement that most people drive SUV's differently than they would a car.
The other thing I noticed is that he makes a case for a agressive male mentality, then later states that the majority of owners are innocent housewives (who don't know they have a hazardous vehicle).
I also found offensive the reference to "immigrants" and working class people who must drive more aggresively than their native born mid/upperclass counterparts (yea-right), who will be flooding our streets once the price drops within their means.
And maybe it's a regional thing, but flashing your lights has always been a warning: cop ahead, I'm going to pass you, your brights are on. I've never seen anyone use them as a signal for me that it's ok to go or they going to run the stop-light.
He stated that there are no bumper requirements for a SUV, but apparently aftermarket market bumpers will kill...
Also liked that 4 wheel drive doesn't offer any advantages. Apparently traction control pushing a single tire is just as good as AWD traction control.
I think there are reasonable solutions out there, but this article had very little reason. Not that it was all garbage, there were some facts, but it is clearly a one sided, narrow-minded article that took a extremist view of the SUV (boy, can't wait to read the book ;-)...
