SUVs and snow

Interesting quote:
"Many of the accidents being reported on the Long Island Expressway involved SUVs. WCBS TV station was reporting that SUV drivers often spin out of control because their four-wheel drive vehicles give them a false sense of security."
I found this to be the case with my Jeep -- going is great, but stopping is a problem. The brakes are much better on my Saab (although the weight of the car and the truck are about the same), the Saab is understeering vice oversteering, and the Jeep has no problems with traction (the Saab takes a bit of maneuvering on uphills and the like). In fact, there's so much traction on my Jeep that you tend to forget you're hauling butt until it's too late.
But I think it's wierd that many people think you must have 4wd/awd in the snow. My aunt, for instance, told me that I better bring my truck if I came to PA in the winter. Well, I drove perfectly fine today in my Saab (with snow tires) and unplowed roads. And, if I hit anything, I'd much rather be in the Saab.
Anyway, some random thoughts about SUVs and snow.
