We have moved on to Mazdas..an '02 Protege5 ( my wildcat son, UK) and an '05 Mazda3 hatch (wife's). I think you can get an '04 3 hatch around 14k. Both of these cars are bulletproof and a blast to drive. I think the 3 is very cool to look at too! Unlike the 6, they are both built exclusively in Japan with 95% Japanese content. The 6 is built in Michigan, of mostly US content. They are both highly regarded...I just think Japanese cars from Japan are better....by definition...
I can highly recommend the Saab dealer service at Burke. There are 2 Saab masters there. Unfortunately one of them is now exclusively Jaguar(thank you GM)...but still drives his '88 900T (over 500k) to work everyday. The other is now primarily Subaru(again thank you GM), and refuses to learn the new GM cars (9-3,9-7) but is a whiz on the 9-2x. He still works on 900's,9000's, ng900/9-3, and 9-5's.
It is a Saab fan friendly place. I wish I still had time to pay the frequent visits that prompted the cashier to ask me if I was a Saab rep!
I can also highly recommend the 2 Mazda dealers (med center and Trussville). They are absolutely first rate. Both are owned by the family that is Mazda's largest private stockholder and are extremely well run.
I am currently driving an Infiniti, but if things don't change at that dealership in the next 2 years, I'll not lease another. Hopefully, I'll find my way back to Saab, or probably another Mazda.
Enjoy the hunt. If I can be of help to you in your move to Birmingham, please send an email.
