I know what you mean about the non-turbo wagon, though I hate the idea of giving up my turbo power, but I refuse to drive or own a vehicle that has trouble getting mileage above the low 20's combined. I don't need that, so its wasteful and expensive. I didn't like filling my 17 gallon Saab tank when gas was $3.00 and I'll be damned if I will buy a vehicle with even worse mileage that I am likely to have for 10 years or so in the future. Low emissions diesels can't get here soon enough (though I must admit that downtown London smells like one giant bus stop with all of the diesels puffing around that town).
I am still in denial about the level of claptrap that I am willing to carry as a parent. I have always been a strong proponent of travelling light (my wife and I went to Europe for 11 days in a single 23" Victorinox travel bag that had straps so that I could carry it on my back like a back pack) and I am somewhat averse to giving that up.
But you make a good point, and I know that it would be better to have extra room, rather than not enough. If it holds up (and it runs really strong, so I don't see why it wont), I will still be driving my '99 9-3 well into 2008. So I guess I will get to see how much crap I really need to carry and I will likely be fortunate enough to do it in a vehicle with good cargo capacity.
Thanks for your thought provoking input on cargo room.
