You know, I don't know a single family with a wagon. Every single one of them pops out a kid and says, "SUV time!" Like they've been waiting all their lives to have a real reason to get one. All my neato wagon and even crossover suggestions get tossed out the window without even the slightest consideration, and they come home with a TrailBlazer or an Explorer and then whine about 15mpg. Jerks. :)
So you're in the $20k-$30k range, then? If it's SUV-ish, I really have to admit to liking the Edge and the CX9. I like the crossover thing quite a bit, and it offsets the one complaint I hear from kid-owning friends in regards to wagons: Low rooflines. It's apparently easier to stuff kids in the back seats when you don't have to bend over so much.
Between the Passat and Audi, though, I'd take the Audi just so I wouldn't have to deal with the VW dealerships around here, which are universally terrible. :)
