My recommendations! Posted by 900 Aero [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Timing Advance in 88 SPG, Randy, Tue, 1 Nov 2005 15:22:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello Randy, what Tyler meant was to bend the riveted stop (a little bit) meaning approx. 1mm. Actually you don't have to remove the diaphragm unit to do this. Instead while your timing light is hooked up just insert a 5/32" drill bit into the hole (rivet looking thing) facing out below the round part. Be sure to hold the sharp end with a rag so you don't cut yourself. Lifting up gently will bend the stop down which is the direction Tyler was referring to. With a timing light in place and a hand vacuum pressure pump (simulate the max turbo pressure you intend to run) you can dial it in to the spec. Swedish Dynamics recommended. My personal recommendation with all the modifications you've done would be to go to an MSD BTM or one of the mechanical A. I. D.'s that I helped design for the old SPG9 company. My reasoning is that just bending the stop doesn't deal with the largest part of the problem which is that the retard curve is all at once. The BTM deals with this electronically and the A.I.D. does it with a stronger spring on the retard side of the diaphragm as well as machining in the extra 1mm of travel so the stop doesn't need to be bent. Hope this helps, Dave
