Mike what size turbo are you planning on using? So people can get more than 25psi out of the regular c900 turbos, if you are only running five psi you're going to be moving alot more compressor wheel than necessary. You may want to look at getting a turbo that has a much lower max boost level, so you can have nasty quick spool ups. An open filter will be beneficial for both spool up time and hp, If you can get it extneded into the wheel well it wil be shielded from engine heat, a definite plus. On the intercooled turbo set up the open K&N's sit right behind the intercooler, which is problematic. Since you're not using an intercooler you could just put the filter there and maybe have some sheild to keep away the hot engine air.
Sorry for the rambling,
Chad
