You keep repeating how water injection is a band aid approach to the problems encountered with high boost, yet I'm not hearing any suggestions as to what you feel should be done instead. As I mentioned before, and as can be read easily countless places, water injection is providing the same effect as an intercooler. Are intercoolers band aids, too? The difference being, water injection performs that task much more efficiently (believe the actual figure is six times when comparing to an air-air intercooler). I just don't follow your comparison between cooling the intake, and thus the in-cylinder and exhaust temperatures as well, and a band aid. Band aid implies something that's not curing the root cause of a problem, just masking the symptoms.
Now I'm not expert, but it seems to me that additional heat as a result of greatly increased boost presure, IS a basic problem to turbocharging. It thus seems logical that cooling down the intake air will address that problem directly, and as a result, also address the symptom of the increased heat, detonation at higher boost levels.
If you can enlighten us as to what the non-band aid approach to reducing detonation at 50-100% higher than stock boost levels, I'm sure you'd have a wide attentive audience.
Also, please feel free to elaborate on what exactly the problems are that need to be addressed, rather than just vaguely suggesting that there are problems, and water injection is simply masking them.
