My 88 900T, I have taken the back seats out completely, the parcel
shelf, the back seatbelts too. I did it mostly for utility, but there
may be benefits to lightening it with high gas prices and my interests
in performance.
Plexiglas is pretty heavy and bends somewhat so that would be a bad
substitute for the parcel shelf. If you want to keep it in there, it's
purpose I think is safety and security, so not too thin a plywood. If
you don't store stuff back there, no need for it at all.
I don't think the seats are that heavy, but I suppose you could replace
them. If I were to do that, it would be for the shape of the seat, not the
weight.
