Why go to the v6 or v8? A b20 can be pushed to a solid 300 hp and there are plenty of b23b out there running well over 300 ftlb of toruqe. I say go for the rear drive set up but use a light weight turbo engine. As for down low power a stock aero (b23br) gives you about 258 lb at 1950 rpm.
A nimble relatively light weight saab turbo would be great if you put a chevy v8 in there, well it might start handling like a car with a chevy v8 in it....
