Gordon,
I own a "home-made" '85 SPG with over 256,000 miles. I have put many, many thousands of dollars into it, knowing I could never possibly recover even half of it if I tried to sell the car. When they get that many miles on them, most potential buyers are scared away by that alone. Most of the mechanical faults you listed are things we all (all of us w/ classic 900) experience. Some of the things you are frustrated with and costs listed are not the car's fault at all (stereo, window tint, wheels, lowering springs, etc.) and were not required to keep the car driveable and fully functional. Bottom line: If you decide to bail now, you are gonna lose. Cash, that is. I say keep up with the repairs and enjoy the lack of a car payment.
As far as the near-stalling condition on braking, is your throttle dashpot adjusted correctly? Does it even work at all? Check it out.
