I still need a good definition of boost taper.
from the sound of it, i would suspect that it is similar to turbo lag...or the ammount of time it takes for the turbo to spool back up to full boost. But, after readin other posts with similar topics it seems that taper is rather different...by talking about wastegate pressures and the way that boost is regulated by the cars brain, i would imagine that the boost taper is sort of a safety precaution (engine safety...not passenger). Would it be correct to assume that the cars were constructed in a manner that would be beneficial for longevity and at the same time hamper actual power output? Im sure that in some respects all cars are made this way...but from what ive heard around this and other message boards, Saabs are built in so that one system is not bogged down or suffocated by another.
you said in your response that "...MBC installs will produce lots of boost taper as the boost is then controlled at the compressor and the manifold sees that pressure less the pressure drops..."
This makes boost taper sound like an OK thing. Lots of anything tend to be bad, unless this "lots" is used to balance "lots" of something else. Henceforth, your statement leads me to beleive that even though boost taper increases, there will be noticeable gains in other areas.
Is my thinking correct?
thanks again
Max
