The only reason I see to put a 4-speed in a C900 would be for added durability and/or different gearing/ratios. These are definitely performance related. Otherwise one would just be forfeiting some fuel economy, quiet, and top end (I am assuming 4th is not terribly tall in the 4-speed box, but I am not familiar with the exact gearing specs for the 4-speed...)
