Had an interesting weekend, fixed some small problems on the SPuG. On the highway Saturday, I'm gettin' on it in 4th (at about 75 mph) when PFFFOOOM, = a loud pop from the engine. I make my way to the shoulder, pop the hood to see the pipe connecting to the throttle body from the IC had blown off. The hose connection there is mighty oily. Reconnect, I'm on my way. Not for long. PFFFOOOM, again. Same thing. I reconnect, and make it home without boosting (very hard to do on highway traffic in Maryland).

Sunday, my brother and I replaced the hose connection there. While the engine is cold, I suggest we try messing with the wategate actuator rod (I'm trying to take the boost down). We do one full turn of the rod, reconnect, and go for a test drive. Max boost is 18 - 20 psi (which is my target area), except it takes forever and a half to get there. Remember, this is a Mitsu turbo, too (faster spool).

No vacuum lines have blown off, oil pressure seems a bit high. My thought: my turbo is done, but.....

No plumes of smoke coming from the rear of the car (as you would expect when the turbo is blowing by oil, except is that the case when it blows by on the compressed side?) and it still gets up to 20 psi (though it gets there about as fast as I get out of bed in the morning).

The turbo was definitely blowing by oil, too much for my taste, before the hose popping event. The oil in there this time seemed even greater. Is the turbo done? Could the hose popping off have enhanced the problem? What else could be causing this spool up problem?

And my last question: What turbonetics turbo do I need? :)
