Do not rely so much on the smokescreen that forged wheel manufacturers have on the strength of a forged wheel. My experience with 3-piece wheels is that the rims are not near as strong as the manufacturer's wheel in 16".
They are certainly lighter then the stock. What are you trying to achieve here, light weight for better performance or looks? Many owners go for the look of having a larger diametre wheel on their vehicle, but this decrease in tyre aspect ratio will definetly effect the spring rate of your vehicle.
This is akin to your vehicle sounding and riding like a 1977 corvette.
Tests have shown that increasing the wheel size (Plus sizing) is best if going up only 1". Unless you make major changes to the suspension system to take advantage of the plus sizing. The reason the wheels are 3-piece is the ability for racers to increase the width size of the wheel, which really does not happen on a street vehicle and the ability to replace BENT RIMS quickly.

Another area that many people fail to take full account of is the weight factor. Do not forget that the total weight of the combination is going to comprise of the tyre, wheel and the lug nuts. Going to a larger sized wheel will almost certainly outweigh the old combination. SSR wheels have a forged wheel that weighs about 14 pounds for a 17" wheel. With the lugnuts and tyre added they weigh within about a pound of the old 16" design. Chances of bending the wheel are more likely over the 16".

Try to find a wheel that you like but imagine your worst nightmare. Hitting a pothole that just came out of nowhere. Murphy's law always comes into play in these situations. I have a friend who is a wheel distributor for TSW and other wheels. Give him a call if you like. His name is Nigel Horbury 1-888-487-9669 (http://www.cheapwheels.com). Mention a SAAB and listen to the insults, just kidding.

If you do go to a 16" the tyre size for you is a 205/50/16 td= 24"
17" the tyre size for you is a 205/45/17 td= 24.2"
15" the original tyre size is a 195/60/15 td= 24.2"
