Now that the merits of the turning force of the flow are recognized as a piston lift assist, one could contemplate the piston face having a curved flow frendly contour. The piston would need to be keyed to prevent its rotating. The discharge rate could be greatly improved. The blunt 90 degree turn is the worst of possible flow possibilities.
Great work! I especially like your use of the MAP sensor signal.
Now another factor, with the piston face against the boost pressure, the valve will open sooner, and when flow starts, the flow it self will create the additional lifting force. So a generalized study would have to compute the lifting force on the piston face, and change the spring preloads to take that out of the equation and measure flow induced dynamic force effects alone. With a wide piston with a smaller valve face, this pressure on the valve face effect is deminished. With the TurboXS valve where the piston is valve face are the same diameter, these effects would be more pronounced. So the effects of installing the TurboXS valve the other way around could be more detremental than with other designs.
