You certainly did a very thourough test on the valve. I have a question
concerning the correct mounting position for the dump in the test.
I must assume that SAAB must know a thing or to about why the valve was
mounted this way. The older SAAB 900 used the dump valve to prevent
damaging the turbo when there was a dramatic change in throttle modulation.
Newer style vehicles use the dump valve in a different manner, they are
used as a divert valve to maintain pressure in the intake. More information
is available by looking at the tech bulletins in/on AUDI web-sites./books.
I have no doubt that the tests you performed showed improvements but what
were results of long term usage? I know that we are always looking for
ways to improve performance and am sure that SAAB along with other car
manufacturers want to put more performance into their cars but warranties
being what they are and drivers never missing shifts, selecting the wrong
gear etc...., they are prevented from doing so. I own 2 SAAB 900 SPGs.
One is a 1988 model with 125 K and the other is a 1991 with 175 K. The
91 model is in France and used primarily for highway usage from country
to country. The other is in Texas. Both have had modifications, albeit
slight, and both are SAAB modified. I recently had a SAAB guru who modified
the 88 model and why quite dissappointed with what he did. The modification he was supposed to make was to the air inlet pipes. Instead he modified parts I did not approve of.Six K later
I am still looking to find a good mechanic to rectify his wisdom. One of the modifications he made was monting the Dump valve in backwards. The dump valve install is not worth any haedaches that may come with performance gains. I should mention the car went in for routine maintenance. Both vehicles had minimum expenditures until then. I have ordered a Forge valve and have an e-mail from both Stratmosphere and Forge
on not changing the mounting position or altering the valve.
