I know that Brad has a different option, which is that the spray should be fine to cool the air that goes through the IC.

My thinking is that a courser spray which wets the fins and tubes will be better. Why? One wants a large amount of external air going through the IC. When you use a fan, you increase the amount of air. Cooling that amount of air with the spray uses a lot of mix. Much of the cooling of the induce air flow it not used effectively. I think that having the tubes and fins wet will cause the evaporative cooling to be concentrated in the boundary layers of the air flow where it can to the most good. Much of the cooled air, cooled by the spay, will pass through the core flow of the fins and not be utilized fully. I am inclined to want to cool the IC with the spray, not the air.

Whats better? Don't know. And the answer might depend on the amount that the cooling air flow is boosted with a fan. Perhaps the velocities are too high and will tear the fluid off of the IC fins before evap can occur. In any case, I expect that a good setup will not have an much mix fluid coming out of the back side of the IC as that is a great waste. So a proper setup probably does not create a sitation where the fan motor is exposed to much mix liquid.

How would which know which approach works better? Simple. Measure the intake air temp under similar conditions. Perhaps not that easy or simple. Getting the same mix flow rate with a different knozzle and lower pressure would be difficult! So effectively, this is not easy to evaluate. If my suspicions were correct, it would be nice, as a low pressure course spray should be easier and cheaper to implement. Creating a fine spray so that the mix evaps in the air so it will not wet the fins will require higher pressures.

My Viggen IC on my SET works great and I am not seeking an IC spray for my 95SET. But my engineering side had to chime in...
