i use diversified crygenics for my treatment. http://www.diversifiedcryogenics.com/
i had some problems with exploding valve lifters at high rpm's and excessive guide wear. last time i built a head i had the guides, lifters and springs treated. the guides were noticeably harder than the previous guides- to the point of having to go one grade harder on the polisher. 5 rallies so far, on a 6800 rpm redline, with no problems. shear resistance is increased and load capabilities are increased. resistance to stress cracking is increased. i agree that shot-peening works great as well, but you cannot shot-peen bearings and races. my gearbox has cryo-treated aerospace bearings and a shot-peened gearset. over a dozen rallies so far and still going strong, despite cracking the case 3 times and having to weld it back together (rocks, etc... punching holes in case) if anyone wants the info i have the specs to shot-peen gearsets. i also have the cross-references for uprated aerospace (milspec) bearings.
