I almost bought a wrx-My girlfriend would not let me based on looks of the car. I had to agree. The evo in my mind is just as ugly, if not uglier. But, some people think saabs are ugly as well. I'm not one of them. My next door neighbor's best friend has a wrx from last year. This guy is in his 50's-how cool is that! Anyway, his car looks bone stock except the 3" inch exhaust all the way back. Can't really see it-no fart can on the back. It's lowered a tad and has some nice wheels and tires. Open the hood and that's a whole different story. WOW! So he takes me for a ride up the mountain I live on. There is no way a saab can keep up to this car. The car is faster than my porsche(which isn't saying much) but my porsche is very much modified. His car dynoed at sears(paper out of glove box) 318 hp at the wheels. Yee haaa.. OK, maybe there are saabs out there that can beat it. But not many. And, the car handles great-a little stiff.
I would also like to add that at least there are car makers like subaru, nissan and such that are starting to make performance cars that are affordable to a differnet class of people like myself. In other words, I can't buy a 30,000(BMW)used, but I can buy a 2 year old used(subaru) 18,000 car. At least there going in the right direction. I'm still keeping my saab even though my gal hates that I work on it and my porsche(72) every weekend. No subaru for me but maybe a Vigen.
Cheers
