Scott, just to clear things up; I meant to say APC solenoid, which is the thing that has three hoses coming out of it and sits near the turbo. Reconnect and take off the MBC. Set your Wastegate to Abbott's recommended level. Now things should be good and fast.
you can still use the MBC to get faster spool up. Basically you put the MBC inline one of the turbo vacuum lines and set it to say 8 psi. The car will spool quickly to 8 psi and then the electronic system will take over. Search this board for more detailed instructions. Personnally with the ECU and elevated base boost I wouldn't think this is necessary, but get your ECU squared away and see how you feel then.
By the way, ditch your performance mechanic! The APC solenoid controls boost pressure, through direct control of the wastegate. If it is disconnected and replaced with a MBC, only the MBC will have boost control. If your mechanic thought that the ECU could work with the MBC bypassing the APC solenoid, he lacks a fundamental understanding of the way a saab turbo set-up runs. Is he a saab guy or a performance guy?
