Losing Belted Accessories

Hey All -
In the search for less weight and more power, I'm considering the following
changes for my '86 SPG track car:
1 - remove PS pump and PS rack and replace w/ EMS manual rack
2 - remove water pump and replace w/ Davies-Craig Electric Water Pump & electronic temperature control.
The net result should be less parasitic drag on the crankshaft (ie, more
power) and less weight/mess (no power steering), excellent temp control, etc.
My only concern is that the EMS rack is going to suck with 205 and 215
section width sticky tires and 250-300hp I'm shooting for. Once I
disconnected my PS pump belt to see what it was like - it was terrible!
There was more steering feel, but there was a lot of steering kickback
too, that must normally be damped by the pressurized fluid in the PS
rack. Crossing expansion joints, lane divider dots, different pavement
under power would almost rip the wheel out of my hands! So does anyone
have experience w/ a high-power c900 and an EMS rack? I want to know!
Thanks, Damien
PS - I used to own a '79 900 EMS, so I know the joys of finessing a nimble, tall-
tired, low-powered car around the bends. Fun, but not *race ready* as they say.
