Hi Damien. Being a vintage guy I do not usually frequent this board but just ran across your post. I have the Davies-Craig with electronic controller on my '69 model 95 V4. There are serious problems with this unit as supplied and you need to be prepared to do a bunch of design work that they overlooked. It may be decently adapted to some kinds of racing use but is not satisfactory for street use. While the controller does modulate pump voltage some, for practical purposes it is off or on. When off obviously it pumps not at all; when on it pumps fine. If you are driving on the highway in cold weather, the pump runs when the controller's thermostat reaches its setpoint, for just long enough to fill the engine with a charge of coolant fresh from the radiator where it has been sitting getting thoroughly cooled for the last minute or so. Cold coolant hits the controller thermostat, the pump shuts down, the engine takes a minute or so to heat the coolant, and the cycle repeats. Watch your temp gauge hop up and down. This is not good for the engine to get thermally cycled every minute or so. This is minus thermostat as recommended by Davies-Craig. Putting back the thermostat helps some. I am still working on refinements to make a system I can live with. The electric water pump is a great idea, you will see them in a few years from the factory. It is an energy saver. In the present D-C version it leaves a lot to be desired. When I figure out how to make mine work to my satisfaction I will post a full report on the Other Models board.
