Sounds like the basic install is OK.

What is the boost in 3rd gear without the SMBC?

You have the SMBC adjusted to go above that level?

I gather that you tried a modified ECU once, but now are stock.

(A SMBC and a modified ECU are a good combo for a T5 or a T7 as the SMBC can provide the faster turbo spool up that the ECU cannot.)

The SMBCs do not overshoot at all when adjusted to not produce boost beyond the stock boost. If you push the pressure higher than the ECU's target with a SMBC on a T5, the ECU and BPC will be trying to get the pressure down, but the SMBC is overwhelming it. So I expect that the ECU and BPC are able to kill any overhsoot problems. Which suggests that an overboosted-SMBC is a useful configuation for a T5.

So there is the new terminolgy that we need: overboosted-SMBC

overboosted-SMBC (T5 only, looks to be free of pressure overshoots) *
MBC (T5 only, creates pressure overshoots)
SMBC (T5 or T7, no pressure overshoots)
MBC+anticipator (T5 only, no pressure overshoots)

* this is a totally new classification, consider newly experimental for now, someone tried this on a T7 and had some difficulties. To what extent a T7 will tolerate mild SMBC overboosting is not well understood.

We have a lot of options now.
