In the 2000 9-3 Saab changed this pipe to plastic which resists heat better. If you changed your current aluminum pipe to this plastic it would not absorb as much heat but for the amount of money it might be more cost effective to jet coat the pipe instead. Other issues may also come up in converting this aluminum pipe to the plastic one not forseen costing it to cost more as well.
I vote for jet coating it.
