I agree, the benefits of using the 9000IC for a fmic on the 900T is price firstly. And the fact that the 900T owner has switched from a "heat soaking, cool-air-starved engine bay placed small IC" to a front mount with large surface area (and heatsink-link capacity) is what makes the BIG difference in cooling, not necessarily the design differences. I'd like to see an experiment for fun, where a stock 900T (later years) oem IC is front mounted, to see how well it does. The front mounting may offset the addition of all the extra tubing. Then compare it to a similar 9000fmic installed on a 900T and test for real world cooling capacities.
I bet somebody like JAK has done that before...
I would prefer a Spearco long width, short row that mounts low in the front and preserves the A/C unit. Sounds like that's what you have, steve. I calculated the efficiency of Brad's fmic using Bell's formula and his efficiency came to 54%. That's actually not so good. I bet your Spearco will be substantially higher, maybe 75%. Have you taken temp reading to do an efficiency calculation??? I just think that if you are going to go through all the trouble of making a fmic, then spend the extra couple of hundred and make it a proper fit with the correct specs, efficiency, etc. But for the best fmic upgrade for less, the 9000 seems the way to go. Also heard the old Volvo IC's were adequate, don't know...
