Going with a sub so close to you can actually be a bad thing :o( The low frequencies need room to develop & being so close will limit the low frequency response.
I am personally going to do a fiberglass enclosure (very light) in the spare tire area which will replace the heavy-ish spare tire. The weight gain will be minimal & a single 10 or 12 will be all I need. I am also hoping to have 1 of my amp mounted in the other side of the spare tire compartment & the larger of the amps I have mounted on the back of the back seats. It's waaaaay to big to fit in the spare tire area with or withought the sub back there :o)
Instead of the 8 in the center console, consider mounting a pair of them under the front seats or possibly 6.5's if the 8's won't work. I had 6.5's there in the past & the sound is very very nice! I will be doing this in the 87 SPG & the fiberglass 10 or 12 in the 88
