You can do whatever you want to it! You made an observation about what Dr. Boost said and then sort of imply he doesn't have any real world experience with these turbo issues. He's probably a bit more conservative when it comes to tuning, but it's because he doesn't want to see others do what he's undoubtedly experienced when experimenting at the engine labs at Saab. Yes, others have used the 18T on the 6 cm^2 housing and haven't had any problems.
It doesn't mean or prove that it's good engineering practice/design. Saab turbos are notorious for the amount of heat that gets produced. For a quick quarter-mile run, or passing the fancy mustang on the local interstates, that's probably ok. But if you want to keep your foot on the gas for a bit longer, and not have to worry about it, then Dr Boosts' design philosophy makes that much more sense, eh? I'm fully aware of the dubious nature of information found on the internet, but I think it would be wise to consider where the information is coming from: if someone who is selling turbocharger parts tells me it's ok to use certain parts, while someone who has absolutely no interest in selling me anything explains the reasons why it may not be ok, and has worked a long time at Saab engine labs, then it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who I'd listen to..........just my 2¢
